I quickly discovered that just blindly walking into a store and buying a Wii was going to be next to impossible. Nintendo did not manufacture more systems in anticipation of the holiday crunch, and the Nintendo Wii turned out to be such a popular item, that stores everywhere are running out.

The problem for the average consumer is that most stores aren't really aware of when they'll be getting a shipment of them, nor do they know how many they'll have available.
